The Guadalupe and the Aquifer
What Plumbers in New Braunfels Deal With First
Plumbers in New Braunfels start with the water. Most of the city's tap water is treated at the Gruene Road Surface Water Treatment Plant off the Guadalupe River, and the rest comes up as groundwater from the Edwards and Trinity aquifers. New Braunfels Utilities says that groundwater carries calcium and magnesium, and it is why heaters, dishwashers and washing machines here build scale. Bergheim Plumbing drives in from Spring Branch on Highway 46 to fix all of it.
Toward the edges of town the plumbing changes. NBU runs sewer to most of New Braunfels, but a house outside its service area drains to a septic system permitted by the county or the city Health Department. That matters when a drain runs slow, because the answer on a sewer line and the answer on a septic line are different jobs. Tell us sewer or septic when you call, and whether the house already has a water softener like the one in this picture.

Out From Main Plaza
New Braunfels, Gruene to Landa Park
New Braunfels was founded in 1845, when Nicolaus Zink led German settlers up the Guadalupe River, and the town grew up on the water power of Comal Springs. Downtown still turns on Main Plaza. Gruene began three miles north at a river crossing and sits inside the city limits now.
A house near the plaza and a house out past the edge of town get the same truck and the same deal: no charge to come out, and a price before any work. The miles above are measured from Main Plaza. Give us the street when you call, and we will give you an honest time for it. From the shop, add the 43 minutes it takes to reach the plaza.

Straight Answers
New Braunfels Plumbing Questions
Where Does New Braunfels Tap Water Come From?
Mostly from the Guadalupe River, treated at the Gruene Road plant. The rest is Edwards and Trinity groundwater. If your house runs on a private well instead, tell us when you call.
Why Does My New Braunfels Water Heater Fill With Scale?
The groundwater in the city's supply carries calcium and magnesium, and heat drops it out as scale inside the tank. A yearly flush slows it down, and a water softener stops most of it. A heater that is already failing is a water heater job we price before we start.
My House Is on Septic Outside NBU Sewer. Can You Help?
Yes, with the plumbing inside the house: slow drains, leaks, heaters and fixtures. If a slow drain turns out to be the septic system itself, we will tell you so, and that part goes to a septic company.
How Soon Can a Truck Reach New Braunfels?
The drive from the shop to Main Plaza is about 43 minutes. You get an honest arrival time for your street, and if water is on the floor, we tell you what to shut off while we drive.
Do You Work on Homes in Gruene?
Yes. Gruene is inside the New Braunfels city limits, about nine minutes north of Main Plaza, and a house there gets the same price-first rule as anywhere else.
What Does It Cost to Have You Look?
Nothing. There is no charge to come out to New Braunfels. We find the problem and give you a price, and you pay only if you approve the work.
