If You Are Not Sure, It Counts

What Counts as an Emergency

If you are not sure, it counts. Call and describe it, and David tells you whether it can wait until morning.

01

A Burst or Frozen Pipe

Water running with the fixtures off, a wet ceiling, a wall that is warm or soft to the touch. Shut the main valve first, then call.

02

A Flooded Garage or Utility Room

Most of the time it is the water heater or a supply line. Keep the water away from the panel and the outlets and call.

03

A Drain or Sewer Line Backing Up

Water coming up in the tub or the shower when the toilet flushes. Stop using water in the house and call.

04

No Hot Water, or a Leaking Water Heater

A tank that is leaking from the bottom does not get better. Turn it off at the gas valve or the breaker and call.

05

Signs of a Slab Leak

A water bill that jumped, a warm spot on the floor, the sound of running water with everything off. Call before it gets under the foundation.

06

No Water at All

Check with a neighbor first if you are on a well or a co-op. If it is only your house, call.

What to Do Before We Get There

  1. Shut Off the Water at the Main

The valve is usually at the meter by the street, or where the line enters the house. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

  2. Turn Off the Water Heater

Gas: turn the control to off. Electric: flip its breaker. A tank that runs dry can be ruined in minutes.

  3. Keep Water Off the Electrical

If water is near the panel, an outlet or an appliance, stay clear of it and say so on the phone.

After Hours, and What That Means

The shop keeps regular hours, Monday through Friday, 8 in the morning to 5. Outside them: after hours emergency service available. That is the whole promise, and it is one David keeps. In his own words about a Sunday call: “If somebody calls me on a Sunday and says, my house is absolutely flooding, we’re going to go help them out.”

Coming out and looking costs you nothing, on a weekday or a weekend. You pay for work you approve.

“Thank you so much for coming to help us after the unexpected freezing temperatures! I’m sure you were slammed with calls but you managed to install our water heaters and get us back in shape after 10 days without hot water!”
